David Duffield, the serial entrepreneur best known for founding PeopleSoft Inc., is making a familiar business trip, once again relocating a company from Walnut Creek to Pleasanton.
Workday Inc. plans to announce today that is it moving its headquarters to Pleasanton Corporate Commons, a business park adjacent to Stoneridge Mall. The nearly 70,000-square-feet of space was previously occupied by E-Loan Inc., the online bank that significantly downsized as the mortgage crisis escalated. E-Loan stopped issuing loans several weeks ago.
Workday is the fifth startup for Duffield, who serves as the company's CEO and chief consumer advocate. The firm, which creates software that allows businesses to manage human resources and accounting functions online, is now located at 2033 North Main St. in Walnut Creek. PeopleSoft was also originally based in that city, before moving to Pleasanton's Hacienda Business Park in 1995.
"It's like that Yogi Berra line, deja vu all over again," said Scott Raty, chief executive officer of the Pleasanton Chamber of Commerce. "We're looking forward to Dave Duffield's return. We hope that Workday will be a great new addition to the world of innovation and entrepreneurship here in Pleasanton."
