Hi there,

We are facing exceptional slowness in peoplesoft HRMS application at this time (so called salary planning period). One obvious reason is that there are comparatively more users using the system during this period. But in fact, I could only see the 10 users at the max.

I doubt if there is any other bottleneck for this slowness. Could someone through a light on this please?
I am currently on Peoplesoft 8 running on Peopletools 8.43.18 and Oracle 8i (on windows 2003 server).

Observation:
I was monitoring the server performance and I observed that one of the psappserv services is eating the entire CPU when there is a request from the user. Thereby, I guess it is holding all other users's requests. Any idea's on why this is eating entire CPU and what can we do to get rid of this behaviour?

Please advice. Thanks,
Durga Prasad

Hi Durga,

Your questions is not easy to answer without looking into many aspects of your environment and PIA. Because PeopleSoft applications are written to operate under many different database and hardware platforms, and operating systems, there is a significant amount of analyzing and tuning that needs to occur to obtain the optimal level of performance.

There are specific tuning parameters and ways to setup your application server(s) to enable optimal performance.

I wrote a book on this subject Tuning Your PeopleSoft Applications for Maximum Performance . The book presents several methodologies and techniques for performance tuning your PeopleSoft environment and applications in an easy to read manner.

If you have more specific questions, I'd be glad to try to answer them.

All the best,
Derek
